We have been working as a project leader at a newly started organisation called Orange Innovation, which is born out of Roskilde Festival. We have been working in the children’s department MadeByKids, which do different summer camps for children aged 9-13 years old. In collaboration with DR (Danish Television and Radio), We have developed the concept of Nørd Labs and executed two events with a total of 400 participants.

Nørd Labs has sprung out from the popular Danish Children’s TV show “NØRD” and is an extension of NØRDCAMP, a 3-day Summer camps aimed at children, aged 9 – 13 years old. Nørd labs is for the whole family and takes place over the course of a weekend, 3 times a year, in different locations at Sjælland.

Our vision is to make families excited about science, by creating a playful learning-by-doing space. We strive to keep the imaginative mind of the child alive, by stimulating their fantasy through creative activities. Nørd Labs wishes to excite and awaken children’s curiosity, encourage them to experiment and gain confidence in daring to take risks and “get their hands dirty”. Nørd Labs aspires to help children explore their skills and abilities both as individuals and as a team.

Professionally, what are the most important things you have learned, as a result of carrying out this project?

My greatest learning has been to lead and navigate between multiple stakeholders’ interests, in the project, and learn from working with a well-known brand, such as NØRD.

Nørd Labs are dependent on engaged partners as well as engaged volunteers. I have focused on building strong collaborations through leading co-creation and design processes. I have learned to be an engaging leader by gathering great people around the big why for Nørd Labs.

Furthermore, I have learned about making contracts, handling budgets and going from developing an idea to fully executing successful children events with a big focus on activity design.

What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project?

I have found my true passion in creating meaningful experiences for children and I have realized that this is a path I would love to follow. I have learned that I am good at creating successful partnerships and building strong relationship, by finding the fine balance in using my professionalism as well as my personality. I am a well-structured project leader good at achieving the goals that I set up.
