SKATEDUCATE is a Danish volunteer association that does skateboard camps and day schools purely for girls under the slogan:

SKATE. EDUCATE. EMPOWER.

SKATEDUCATE provides a creative learning platform that uses gender-divided training to support and motivate
learning through a supportive community among the
participants.

Why: SKATEDUCATE believes that girls can and will gain physical and mental confidence and knowledge – by pushing their boundaries, connecting with other girls and having fun.

How: Creating safe spaces for girls to learn, build trust in their own abilities and take risks without feeling judged, pushed or distracted from others.

What: A mobile skateboard education that seeks to bridge social and cultural differences through a pedagogical framework.
To nurture personal leadership we also provide consultancy workshops that aims to “train the trainer” – and anchor local skills and self-efficacy.

We want to show that skateboarding is for everyone.

Professionally, what are the most important things you have learned, as a result of carrying out this project?

Building on my existing competencies within project management – to balance extensive planning with learning by doing with an build-measure-learn approach.
How to fully give responsibility, ownership and motivate as a leader for volunteers.
Practicing every practical and design aspect of the a-z of a start up.
Building on my strengths within process design in organizational development and culture in a specific context.
Practice in developing and executing the framework and design of processes for guiding personal leadership.

What are the most important things that you have learned, about yourself, as a result of carrying out this project?

From my work, both at Knowmads Business school and with SKATEDUCATE, I have learned the importance of authenticity and understanding my strengths in leadership when I am supporting or guiding others in their passion and leadership.

I have learned how I am more of an ‘intrapreneur’ than an entrepreneur and how much I love working with people and processes.

I have learned to follow my intuition and to voice it. Aslo how being less structured doesn’t limit one but can open for a more agile way of working.
