Strategy & focal points

Through a new modular curriculum and a globalized partnership structure the KaosPilots should seek to grow to 150 students in Denmark, as well as 3-5 programs worldwide by 2013, by offering the best possible education for creative business, leadership, project and process design to the best suited individuals, who seek an opportunity to create the future.

In the following you will get an in depth description of each of the areas mentioned in the strategy above and the individual steps we are focusing on within each.

A new modular curriculum
One of the steps on the way to offering the best education has been to revise our curriculum; creating a new modular structure, which will make it easier for the individual students to specialize in their preferred field, as well as enabling the school to expand by developing new programs based on the same pedagogy and educational principles.

The modular curriculum will allow us to build up programs of some common mandatory modules, combined with electives, where the students can choose from several different options within creative business, leadership, process and project design. This will give the student the opportunity to design her own education and take responsibility for her own learning.

As we implement this new approach the school is also putting emphasis on helping the students to explore their passions and see how these fit into the bigger picture. It is important that the students are provided with the knowledge and experience, which allows them to consider consequences and alternatives and helps them develop the competencies needed to fulfill their dreams.

In order to make it easier for students and teachers to relate to the curriculum, the learning goals and vocational areas have been made more explicit, as well as our focus points have become a more integrated part of all that we in the KaosPilot program.

Sustainability, cultural diversity and social innovation are all global and local challenges that the KaosPilots feel should get special attention at this time, and so this is reflected in the new curriculum to help us focus our energy.

The new curriculum has already been developed, and is now being tested and implemented.

More students

It is the ambition of the KaosPilots to make our value proposition and program available to more people, and we do so not only by gradually opening up more schools, but also by expanding the existing programs where the potential exists.

At the school in Aarhus we feel it would be a positive development to grow to approximately 150 students. In combination with the new modular curriculum it would be a step towards offering a better and more individualized program, because more students give us the option of offering more different courses.

More programs
It is beneficial for the KaosPilots program to have global partners in order to make the program available to more people, and to spar with, exchange ideas with and develop the education with.

These partners should have a strong local platform and agenda, combined with a global perspective, and strive to succeed with their own operations as well as contribute to the betterment of the whole KaosPilots community.

An example of such a partner is the KaosPilot program in Rwanda, which is being development together with the organizations Educat and Umbau.

Another initiative in the way of global partners is KaosStudios, The KaosPilots launched this initiative in 2007 in order to be able to offer concentrated courses based on the KaosPilot program in unique settings, and we wish to continue developing the concept further. See KaosPilot programs and studios for more information, or click here.

In the years to come we will also see a development of more executive programs. They will be consistent with the core qualities constituting all KaosPilot programs, but aimed at a different target group. Send en an email to kaos@kaospilot.dk if you wish to receive information about these coming offerings.

The best education

The structure, the content, the lectures and staff of the KaosPilots are all chosen with the aim of delivering a 1st class, high end, educational experience with global recognition.

In addition to building a new curriculum, the KaosPilots have determined several other areas of interest to work with in order to create the best possible education.

It is important to support the team leaders of the school in their important job function, planning and facilitating the semesters in a way that ensures that their students reach their personal and collective learning goals, as well as meet the requirements of the curriculum.

To provide new team leaders with the needed knowledge, competencies and attitudes a course called the Creative Leadership Program was developed. In time it proved to be very valuable for new staff both at the KaosPilots and at KaosWorks and indeed the public as well, and it has now been made a prerequisite for working at the school, as well as fitted into a training program open to customers.

Also the external faculty must be supported and our relationship strengthened in order to ensure the best education. The KaosPilots have always relied on outside resources to provide lectures and seminar in order to keep the teaching on a high and relevant level.

People and organizations from all over the world, from a wide range of fields of expertise, have been invited for shorter or longer contributions. It is important to ensure the quality of the teaching that we build and nurture these relationships, both with the shorter acquaintances, and the lecturers, who end up coming back year after year.

The best individuals

The KaosPilots is an exclusive program, with a limited number of students, and the school seeks to attract and accept only the most suited: i.e. the best individuals. Although the school strives to benefit the world, the program is not for all. It is a very demanding program and in order to fully take advantage of the education the students must invest themselves, possess certain skills, and have the will to succeed, to create new opportunities and create value for themselves and the society at large. Communicating out

Communicating to the world is an essential part of the schools success. In order to get new students, in order to get the school recognized, and in order to make our knowledge and competencies more accessible to the public we have to invest in communication.

As a communication platform, the new web site, which you are visiting, is indispensable. It is an improvement to the internal as well as the external communication at the school, and the first step towards our ambition of creating an open source platform, where the KaosPilots can contribute to the world, as well as letting the world contribute to the development of the KaosPilots

One way of contributing to the world is allowing the students to display their projects and findings through content production. The value produced at the KaosPilots is partially the learnings of its students, but also an increasing importance is being placed upon providing the student with new media and communication skills, enabling them to make their experiences and knowledge gained accessible for others in a way that creates value for the public.

The students at The KaosPilots are inherently creative, curious and tuned into current trends and developments. As such, over the years a wide variety of organizations have taken advantage of their approach and work, by offering assignments to the students as part of their course work. Now The KaosPilots have initiated a new offering to make their students´ capabilities more easily accessible.
